Following my facebook post about future bmx champ and all round cool wee dude, Harrison Bell, here is a bit more info on what he does!
Harrison Bell is a 10 year old kid from Drumchapel in Glasgow. He lives with his dad, Warren and it’s been just the two of them since 2011 when they lost Harrison’s mum to a short, unexpected illness.
About a year later in 2012 Warren took Harrison to the local Bmx track in clydebank, the rest, as they say is history!
Ever since, Bmx has played an enormous part in their lives helping to fill a massive void.
They have become a great team of father and son, travelling all over the uk & Europe so harrison could race against the best.
In his first full season (aged 5) he competed regionally in Scotland & the north of England, & nationally in the British Bmx series ending up ranked uk no. 8, Scottish champion & Scottish no.1. This qualified him to represent team GB for the first time at the uci bmx world championships in Holland the following year where he did amazingly well making the semi-finals; agonisingly close to coming home with the coveted ‘W plate’ that all worlds finalists receive.
Since then he has gone from strength to strength climbing up the national uk rankings and representing Team GB once again in Belgium in 2015.
In the last 2 years he qualified again for world championships in Columbia and the U.S. Unfortunately, he wasn’t able to pull on the GB jersey on those 2 occasions as, for a single parent, getting to such far flung places doesn’t come cheap.
Now, after missing two world champs, & after him achieving his best ever results & rankings this year – uk number 2 and Scottish champion and number 1- Harrison has qualified yet again for the world championships in 2018, this time in Baku, Azerbaijan.
So after having to miss out for the last 2 years, we are hoping to give Dad Warren a helping hand and do everything in our power to get Wee Harrison on his bike and on that plane to Baku to represent his country once again.
